An Invite to The Roundtable | It's been a slow news week...

This has been a slow news week in terms of sourcing articles and topics to share on the site. I thought I had better write one and update everyone on something that is close to my heart now. This is exciting.
I have been spending a great amount of time over the past few weeks setting up transients’ new forum, The Roundtable. This forum will sit alongside the new site I have been designing for transients and will eventually replace transients’ Facebook Group (the one with over three thousand members). I have reached out to many friends who specialise in certain areas in life that relate to the boards I have setup (38 boards so far), which mostly cover the various topics that this site has always been about, and I have asked them to come and moderate the respective boards that fit into their fields and interest.
At least 90% of those people have accepted my invitations so far and we have some great souls involved that will provide a solid foundation to the future of this forum. Including four global moderators — the rest being board moderators — we will be reaching roughly twenty or so moderators soon once I get everything configured. A few more will come on board within the next week or so. But there are more boards to be looked after and forum elements will sort themselves out over time.

My vision of this forum: It will have an element of the essence of the word roundtable, in terms of people being equal with discussions and staying away from the typical power structure of popular internet forums, but at the same time it might have a further influence of the Arthurian legend. I am really more focused on the theme of this site making it into the energy and space of the Forum, but as I look more into the Arthurian era, some things resonate with what I am doing — that is something that mind came after I had the idea of doing this, and after I had the name ‘Roundtable’ just pop into my head for a working title for the forum, which is becoming more permanent as we go along.

I want this place to be a repository of accurate and reliable information, in addition to letting those responsible look after that information without me getting in the way (I'm still wondering if I shoul moderate a few boards as well. I haven't decided). My aim is to get each board assigned a moderator(s) who will have the responsibility of looking after that board in terms of the flow of information and sticky threads that are available at the top relating to the topic of the board. There are too many boards to list but as you can imagine, if you can think of any topic in relation to transients, it likely has a board setup. If there is a need for another board I can always create it. The global moderators are backup moderators for the board moderators, but they also have a focus on looking after members of the forum and have additional access for that purpose.
I have some solid experience moderating, administrating and dealing with different types of forum software. I decided to go with xenForo, which is something I had never heard of until a few weeks back. But it is superior in my opinion to other forums I have used, including phpBB. It is very responsive and quick, but also has all the features one would expect, while being modern in relation to today’s website technology expectations. The xenForo community is solid in terms of the add-ons that are produced and maintained, based on new versions of the forum coming out. There are some great add-ons I have purchased to enhance the user experience on the forum. (I have spent about US$250 so far on the forum software and a few paid add-ons)
Three graphic designers have volunteered to help me out with the new site, so I will likely get some help with setting up a nice logo for the forum, as well as the new site, when it’s time to focus on that. I may also look at getting some help with setting up another style. That the look of the forum can be changed. I have currently made two styles available, which I am experimenting with from time to time. We can have more in the future so that there is a variety, as everyone has a certain taste. (The style is the colors and look of the layout of the forum)
I warmly invite you to come along and sign up if you feel compelled to do so. You will connect with many souls here as well as find, share and discuss the multitude of topics which have been covered by www.transients.info in the past. This is a temporary URL for the Roundtable, http://vps19918.inmotionhosting.com/~transi45/roundtable/, as I can’t assign it to the transient domain name just yet. When the new site is ready and the Forum has established itself more, I will bring it into that live state. We can consider it a beta forum for now.
One of the paid add-ons I have installed allows commenting on articles on the new wordpress based transients website, from users who are registered on the forum. Articles that get posted on the new site will automatically be posted on a dedicated board on the forum as well.
I will talk again about the forum in the future and perhaps get into some detail around who our moderators are.
