How I'm discovering the secrets of ancient texts | Gregory Heyworth, TED Talk

On the left side of this old parchment is a purple mark. It comes from aspergillus, a type of fungus, which is from the unwashed hands of a person who has tuberculosis.

In his lab, Textual scientist Gregory Heyworth researches new ways to read ancient manuscripts. As he explains in this twelve minute talk, there are over sixty thousand—pre-fifteen hundred—manuscripts which are eligible because of water damage, fading, mould and chemical agents. As he says, it is amazing what can be found within such ancient texts.
