Channeling and Discernment

By Brad Austen, contributing writer for
Reading or listening to channeled information can be a great way to receive new and higher knowledge that we don't normally have access to. Channeling can 'fill the gaps' in certain areas that our society hasn't become aware of or discovered yet. But, because this information often comes from a higher source, should we take it all in as gospel truth? Just because information is claiming to come from a higher source, doesn't necessarily mean it's entirely correct or accurate.

For example, the channeler's filters and belief system can influence the information he or she is receiving. This can sometimes, but not always, result in the channeled information becoming mixed with half-truths and falsehoods. This is why exercising discernment, or a 'truth filter', is really important. Another thing to note is that there are many realities and perspectives, that what an average human experiences is very limited, in a multi-dimensional sense.
I have personally observed some people becoming confused by reading a lot of conflicting channeled information. As a general rule of thumb, it is wise to only take in what resonates, or feels right, and discard the rest. Some off-planet channeled sources from extraterrestrials may seem very alien and intangible to relate to. We are all unique. Some people like that sort of channeled information, while others prefer more grounded, practical information.

One way to verify channeled information is to connect to and ask your higher-self or guides to verify the information for you. Not everyone has this ability, but like any skill, it can be learnt and developed. Some people like to use a pendulum and ask 'yes or no' questions, for verification of information. Asking friends or family who are also interested in channeling for their opinion on certain material can sometimes be helpful.
Another point to keep in mind is that if a channeler is communicating with an ascended master or angelic being, there is no linear time in their dimension, as we experience on earth. Many probabilities or predictions may not occur in the year or time specified. The other side to this is that we as human beings have freewill, which is constantly altering the outcome of events and happenings.
If channeled information is heart-centered and makes you feel good, this is often a good sign that it's coming from a good source. If the information makes you fearful or afraid, that is often a sign the information isn't coming from a very high source. The other thing to note is that some astral beings like to play tricks and claim they are this or that ascended master, when in reality they are not. Ultimately, the best way is to learn to receive information directly from your higher self or I AM presence. This can take practice, but if this interests you, you can study psychic development or mediumship classes and learn to connect directly.
Contacting or attending a Spiritualist church in your area is a good place to start, or alternatively, attending development classes at a reputable school or college. I hope some of this information about the nature of channeling and discernment assists you on your spiritual path.
