The birth of a Pangolin

This accompanying video shows a baby Pangolin soon after birth. The Pangolin is also known as a scaly anteater or trenggiling. This is an interesting looking baby mammal, as you will see in the video. The video was posted by the Taipei Zoo, which is a zoological garden in Wenshan District, Taipei, Taiwan.

A pangolin has large keratin scales which covers its skin, and is the only known mammal with this adaptation. This scaley little critter is found naturally in tropical regions throughout Africa and Asia.

The name pangolin comes from the Malay word pengguling, meaning "something that rolls up". The video below is just over three minutes and is not in English, but you get the general idea of what is going on without any assistance.
