Federal agents release cattle and back down from 'range-war' - Cliven Bundy cattle dispute

As I reported in my detailed article explaining the situation surrounding the court order which the US Bureau of Land Management had obtained to seize Cliven Bundy's cattle, all Sheriff Doug Gillespie had to do was ask BLM to leave and it seems that this is what just occurred on Saturday in Nevada.

Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie is said to have been in negotiation with Cliven Bundy for a number of months before the situation escalated into the BLM moving in to seize the cattle. On Saturday morning in Nevada at Cliven Bundy's ranch, Sheriff Doug Gillespie and Cliven Bundy met to discuss a deal reached the evening before, according to 8 News Now and reported by the Daily Mail. Cliven had asked the Sheriff to come on over to his property to finalise the talks.

A number of sites reporting on this story are stating that Sheriff Doug Gillespie was acting as a negotiator between BLM and Cliven Bundy when the deal was made. However, it seems that also on Saturday when the above agreement was finalised, the director of the US Bureau of Land Management released his own statement which, in my oppinion, did not seem at all related to the actual deal made between Sheriff Doug Gillespie and Cliven Bundy.

"Based on information about conditions on the ground, and in consultation with law enforcement, we have made a decision to conclude the cattle gather because of our serious concern about the safety of employees and members of the public."

So the specifics are still not clear around what caused the Federal agents to back off. A lot of people are saying that it was because of the build up of anti-government groups, right-wing politicians and gun-rights activists involved with supporting Cliven Bundy. The numbers on site did reach up to 1,000 supporters at one stage.

While the agreement was finalised on Saturday morning at Cliven Bundy's ranch for the BLM to pull out, it was not clear what was going to happen to the cattle that BLM still had in their custody. The above image shows protesters heading towards a fence late on Saturday morning, where the BLM had a camp setup, near to where the cattle were being held.

The purpose of the protesters were to take back Cliven Bundy's cattle from the Federal agents as BLM still refused to return the cattle at that stage. BLM had offered to buy the cattle from Cliven, but Cliven had declined their offer.

It's said that during this scene above and after very intense talks, a stand-off occurred. During the time the talks were occurring, the crowd of armed protesters grew stronger. It is claimed that nearby on the road was a SWAT team and over two dozen police in addition to the Federal agents on the ground.

The below image was taken during this tense stand-off and appropriately captioned considering the events earlier in the week, when Federal Government snipers were pointing their guns at Bundy's family and friends.

By 5pm US ET that same afternoon, the BLM finally agreed to return the cattle to Bundy.

During the whole event, no shots were ever fired. It was reported that cell-phone services were restored after they had been cut off by the Government and that the flight restrictions put in place by the FAA during the past week in that area, still have not been lifted.

You may have noticed a lack of reporting on the whole incident on specific US based mainstream media outlets. An article posted on Steve Quayle site, based upon an insider in the US Department of Homeland Security, says that in relation to the Federal Government's involvement, 'They were also actively managing the media, in some cases threatening to cut off White House access to anyone covering the event.'

This article also goes on to imply that this is not the end of the situation surrounding the cattle dispute. It may be worth your read because of the additional information surrounding that claim. The authenticity of the source should be taken into consideration in relation to the information being real or not as well.

Mike Adams released an article only hours ago which discusses a secret audio recording which was taken at the Bundy Ranch. The recording is of a conversation that BLM Special Agent in Charge of Region 3, Dan Love had with Guerilla Media Network radio host Pete Santilli, who was serving in the role as a communications liaison between the armed citizen protesters and the BLM at the time.

The conversation in question took place on Thursday the 10th and the general theme of it is that both of them were threatening each other with arrest based upon the circumstances at that stage of the dispute. The conversation gives some insight into the general attitude that Dan Love, as a representative of BLM, had over the situation. You can find the transcript and article here.

Some people said that this event may have been the straw that broke the camels back. But when you take into consideration the amount of ammo that various Federal agencies have stocked up with over the years, among many other factors going on the US, including the possible reasons behind why BLM want that land specifically, the general problem in the US surrounding this type of situation probably isn't over just yet.

This was a good ending for now. I doubt that the evil empire will let this stand for long. A good sign that people are finally able to stand up and the populace is waking up to a much greater extent.

The Gov was not prepared for this confrontation. It backed down to reconsider its options, much in line with earlier predictions. It will be very interesting to see the next events unfolding...

This isn't over by a long shot. The outbreak of support for the plight of this rancher was the result of social and alternative media. You can bet the next time something like this happens, they'll make sure communications are cut. This was probably a great learning experience for the Feds and they'll be much better positioned for the next round. I sure don't have a good feeling about it.

I was a little disappointed that Oathkeepers didn't join the Bundy alliance until late in the game when the Feds had backed down. I think they are a little over concerned about media image rather than doing what is right.

I agree with Rachelle that the Feds will be ramping up the speed and roll out of their show of force for the next confrontation. This is what happened after the Seattle WTO protest in '99; at the subsequent G8 event, the cops just raided the protestors' domicile in the early morning hours and beat them up before they could do anything.

I also agree with Rachelle. This isn't the end and I hope the Bundy Ranch doesn't let their guard down. I think the feds are angry and there will be severe backlash. Next time they will be quick and sneaky. I think once Mars goes direct in May, the anger will unleash in a fury. I also have a bad feeling and fear for the Bundys safety. But I think the people will revolt if Bundys are harmed because they represent the values this country was built on and many people are upset with the government in general. The reaction would not be because of the Bundy situation, but the situation would be the straw that broke the camel's back for the People who are fed up.
Thank you Laron for your awesome research and interesting posts. I stumbled across this site while researching the Grand Cross (my bday is April 21st) and have been hooked ever since. You write in an unbiased, logical, well-written manner that is refreshing.
